Patholi

PathoLi (Konkani Style dumpling with sweet coconut filling)
The sweet aroma of the turmeric leaf is absorbed into the PathoLi giving it a great flavor.

PathoLi is a dish that is not only typical to Mangalore but a must during Gowri and Ganesha Festival as well as Nagapanchami; which fall in the month of Shravan Maas.. 


Preparation:
For filling:
Coconut 1 cup
Jaggery 1/2 cup
Cardamom powder 1/2 tea spn

Heat jaggery and melt it , when its melted add the gratted coconut & mix continuously till it forms a uniform mixture. Add the cardamom powder.

Rice paste:
Soak the rice in water for around 1hr.
Grind it along with coconut (without adding much water). Now add washed poha and grind to get a smooth paste. Add salt.

Method
Spread a thin layer of the rice paste on the Turmeric leaves (or parchment paper piece).
Spread around 1-2 tbsp of coconut filling over the rice paste.
Fold the leaf & pile in the steamer or in a cooker vessel.
Steam it for around 12-15mins.
